Seals

We create beautiful bas-relief seals for for state, county and city governments for placement in commission or council chambers, offices, lobbies, and meeting rooms. Our exterior seals are also used on building exteriors. Each hand-carved seals is a true work-of-art.

Seals can be custom designed or reproduced from an existing drawing or photograph. Each drawing is enlarged by hand to the appropriate size seal and the image is transferred onto a clay bed. This is followed by meticulous carving in three dimensions to create the original art. A mold is then made from the finest material to preserve the hand made character.

After seals are completed, the mold is stored in our warehouse so we can reuse it to make additional copies of the same seal at a discounted cost without loss of quality.

Interior Seals:

Each seal is cast in rock-hard reinforced polyurethane. The seal is then hand painted, signed and numbered. The fine detail of the design is emphasized through the use of different shades of metallic gold, silver, or bronze (see the example above).

Exterior Seals:

For outside mounting, polyester resin reinforced with thermolite (natural stone filler) is used as a base and covered with a cold cast coating consisting of pulverized genuine metal fused to the base with bonding liquid available in bronze, brass or aluminum. The rough plaque is sanded, hand rubbed and polished. The metal is treated with an application of anti-tarnishing hot wax and then sealed with protective acrylic based lacquer. This treatment protects the surface against harmful atmospheric elements and fast altering of the finish. However, bronze and brass will change in time which is a characteristic of these metals. The aging of the metal is often desired, but if you prefer, a rubbing of medium coarse steel wool will restore the original luster. As an additional feature, the background can be painted black with special outdoor paint (the same is used on cemetery plaques or markers), for better readability without additional cost. Seals are available in various sizes (see price list). The interior plaques are wired and ready to hang. Exterior plaques have four 3/8" by 2" carriage bolts embedded into the plaque and suggested mounting instructions are provided.
